Rock Paper Scissors War

It looks like rock paper scissors. It plays like a war. You get a hand of rock, scissors and paper cards and split them across three fronts. Take two fronts and you win the game.

How to play

  1. Each round you get a set number of cards to place across the three fronts.
  2. On one front you play first and your card is shown. On another your opponent plays first. On the third you both play blind.
  3. Only as many cards fight as the smaller side played โ€” four against one means one clash.
  4. Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. The loser breaks; on a tie both break.
  5. Cards that survive keep standing for the next round, so a front you keep feeding gets thick.
  6. A tied front carries its points forward, which makes a quiet front suddenly worth winning.

What makes it a strategy game

You never see which cards your opponent played โ€” only how many. Reading that is the whole game. Because later rounds are worth more points, a front you gave up early can still decide the match. And because only the smaller side's cards fight, putting more cards down is not automatically better.

Who you play against

Six opponents, each with a different way of beating you. The first spreads evenly across all three fronts. Later ones hit wherever you played thin, go after fronts where points piled up, block the front you were about to take, or give up a front without hesitating to win the other two. There is also pass-and-play on one device and online matches against whoever shows up.
